What the task looks like
The interviewer introduces a topic, for example a university survey about study habits. The first questions ask about you. The later ones ask what you think and why. Forty-five seconds is longer than it sounds, so you need a structure to fill it well.
An answer structure that works
- 01Answer the question directly in your first sentence.
- 02Give one clear reason.
- 03Support it with a short, specific example from your life.
- 04Close with one sentence that links back to the question.
Do you prefer studying alone or with other people? Why?
I prefer studying alone, mainly because I focus better without distractions. For example, last semester I prepared for my statistics exam in the library by myself, and I finished the practice problems in half the time it took my study group. So for subjects that need concentration, studying alone works best for me.
Direct answer, one reason, one specific example with real detail, and a short close. About 40 seconds at a calm pace.

Common mistakes
- Repeating the question word for word instead of answering it.
- Giving three reasons with no detail. One developed reason scores higher.
- Speaking fast to fit more in, then running out of ideas at 25 seconds.
- Memorised answers that do not fit the question. Raters notice.
