What raters listen for

  • Intelligibility: can a listener understand every word without effort?
  • Fluency: steady speech with natural pauses, not long silences or restarts.
  • Accuracy: correct grammar and word endings, especially -s and -ed.
  • Relevance and development (interview only): a direct answer with a reason and an example.
